Directors | Staffing Children's Crisis Treatment Center, formerly the Center for Early Childhood Services, was founded in 1971 by Louise Sandler, Ph.D., as a demonstration project under a federal grant from the U.S. Bureau of Education for the Handicapped. Originally under the aegis of the Franklin Institute Research Laboratories, the project sought to research and demonstrate the effectiveness of a treatment approach to emotionally and socially disturbed young children, based in a sound environment with an interdisciplinary staff from psychology, psychiatry, social work, and early childhood education. In 1978, the Center became a private non-profit corporation and moved to its present location in the Franklintown area of Philadelphia. The Center has since added four programs and now serves over 450 children at any given time. These services are provided at our two locations, in the child’s home, school or any other location deemed necessary during our treatment planning. The agency's success in moving from a small government-supported research project in the 1970's to a strong and thriving service provider today is due to a history of attracting qualified professionals who are dedicated to serving children and their families. Additionally, the Center has a steadfast, energetic board of directors and the commitment of a generous, visionary group of corporate and individual benefactors. |
