Does My Child Need Help?

Questions regarding pre-schoolers:

1) Is the child's play too aggressive with other children?

2) Is the child tantruming frequently and taking more than 10 minutes to calm down?

3) Does the child seem to be in constant motion as if driven by a motor?

4) Is the child exhibiting any long-term problems with sleep or appetite?

5) Has the child been removed from one or more daycare settings?

Questions regarding children ages 5 through 13:

1) Does the child seem preoccupied with violence?

2) Does the child talk about not wanting to live?

3) Does the child have difficulty keeping friends or is known as a "loner?"

4) Has there been any recent drop in grades or avoidance of going to school?

5) Is the child having difficulty concentrating or understanding directions?

If you answer yes to any one of these questions, this may be an indication of a problem that needs psychological intervention. These questions are a sampling of concerns, but many other types of concerns are possible. With the proper evaluation and treatment and family support, children (who by nature are very resilient) will often begin to make positive changes within a few short months.
