Donation Volunteers in the Therapeutic Nursery make it possible to give much-needed attention to individual children. They can provide new and significant relationships as they play games, read books, encourage symbolic play, teach concepts, expand communication skills, and give of themselves in hundreds of different, important ways. Volunteers also help the Center's Development staff with fund-raising mailings and events and have played an important role in periodic clean-up and painting projects for the building and playground. Most of our children have not had the positive experiences in their lives to promote healthy development; in fact, many have led lives filled with fear, abuse and neglect. As a volunteer, your attention and caring can provide a different kind of experience, one that will help our children build new pathways for emotional and cognitive growth. |
