Trauma Services Program (TSP)

CCTC’s Trauma Services Program (TSP) in Montgomery County, provides specialized care to children and adolescents ages 18 months through 18 years and their families who have recently experienced a traumatic event. Our Trauma Services team works with children who:

  • Have witnessed the homicide or suicide of a family member;
  • Have been physically, sexually, and/or emotionally abused, or neglected  by a caregiver and/or who have witnessed the maltreatment of a loved one;
  • Have witnessed domestic violence;
  • Have survived or witnessed serious accidents or other violent events at school or in the community;
  • Are experiencing or have a family member experiencing a chronic or terminal illness; or
  • Have lived through a war or violent political unrest in their homeland.

Through evaluation, therapy, clinical care coordination, and collaboration with each child’s caregiver(s), we strive to get each child back on a normal developmental path and to prevent them from developing any long-term, trauma-related mental or behavioral health problems. Our trauma clinicians and supervisors are trained in a number of research-supported practices for evaluating and treating child traumatic stress, and we tailor our treatment methods to meet the individual needs of each child and family.

Trauma Services is structured to provide support for children and their families at every step of their recovery process. In addition to state-of-the-art, trauma-focused evaluation and therapy services, we provide children and families with clinical care coordination services, linking them to additional services and supports, ensuring service providers are working together effectively, and accompanying children and families to court proceedings related to the traumatic event.

Over the course of treatment, children and families recover and heal from traumatic events. Throughout treatment, children learn healthy ways to express their feelings and to talk and play about what happened to them. Caregivers develop a clearer understanding of how trauma effects their child, and learn tools to help them communicate with and support their child throughout the healing process.
